A soft doll that breathes, glows and plays

It is a plush figure of Jesus with the Sacred Heart appliqued onto the robe. Inside it is a small motor that makes the chest rise and fall in a slow, even rhythm, a warm light behind the heart, and a speaker. The page you are reading used to describe only the breathing. It does three things, and you should know about all three before you give it to anyone.

Breathes

A slow mechanical rise and fall

A small motor lifts and lowers the chest in a steady rhythm. It is a mechanism, so it makes a faint sound while it runs. Owners of this style of doll describe that sound differently — some barely notice it, some do. Expect to hear something.

Glows

The heart lights up

A warm amber light sits behind the appliqued heart and shines out through the plush. In a dark room it reads as a soft pool of light rather than a beam. It is a comfort glow, not a reading lamp.

Plays

Built-in sound

There is a speaker inside. What it plays and how many tracks it holds varies between production runs of this doll, so we are not going to put a number on it until we have one in front of us.

Setup

Batteries are not included, and an adult has to fit them

This is the single most common surprise with this doll, and it is worth knowing before it is wrapped as a gift. It runs on three AAA cells that you supply yourself. They go into a compartment in the back of the doll, and there is an on and off switch there too.

Buy three AAA cells at the same time you buy the doll. Nothing happens out of the box without them.
An adult should open, load and close the compartment. Not the child receiving it, and not in front of them.
Check the compartment is properly shut before you hand it over, and check it again from time to time. Loose cells inside a toy are dangerous if a small child gets at them.
Switch it off when nobody is using it. It saves the cells, and it stops the motor running unattended.
Take the cells out if it is going to sit unused for a long stretch, before a holiday or in storage. Cells left in a toy for months can leak.

What we do not know about this one

This doll is sold as a children's gift, and it contains a motor, a light, a speaker and replaceable cells. A toy sold for children in the United States is supposed to be tested by an accredited laboratory and covered by a Children's Product Certificate. We have not been shown that paperwork for this item, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

We are not stating an age range. Other sellers of similar dolls put one on the box. We have no test report behind ours, so we are not going to invent one.
Treat the battery compartment as the thing that matters. Keep it shut, keep the cells out of reach, and keep the doll away from any child young enough to mouth it unsupervised.
